SMSL has unveiled its latest DAC in a line of products aiming for high sound quality at bargain-prices, the SMSL SU-9. The SU-9 replaces the older SU-8 and offers an upgraded DAC chip, color display, adds Bluetooth connectivity, and MQA decoding.

SMSL SU-9 Balanced DAC

SMSL SU-9

The new balanced SU-9 DAC uses the flagship ESS Sabre ES9038Pro DAC Chip. The Pro DAC chip features ESS’ patented 32-bit HyperStream modulation technology. The all-new SMSL SU-9 DAC from the brand includes a lot of upgrades. Notable upgrades include a better DAC chip, color display, Bluetooth, MQA support, and improved performance.

Front Color Display

The multi-function rotary encoder or remote control can control all the functions of the SMSL SU-9. The front 1.9 inches LCD color display shows the settings menu, input switching, volume control, and changing sound color modes.

SMSL SU-9 Multiple Inputs/Outputs

The USB input uses the second-generation XMOS XU208, making the SU-9 capable of decoding PCM files up to 32-bit/784kHz, DSD files up to DSD512, and MQA. The coaxial and optical inputs, however, support 24-bit/192kHz. On top of the USB input, the SU-9 also includes optical, coaxial, and wireless Bluetooth connection. On the back panel, we find the usual RCA and XLR outputs.

The optical and coaxial inputs feature an ultra-low phase noise, digital PLL jitter-reduction system that reduces jitter. The SMSL SU-9 DAC has an internal power supply, ensuring excellent sound quality and ease of use.

Hi-Res Wireless Bluetooth 5.0

Bluetooth Antenna

The Hi-Res Bluetooth 5.0 input supports nearly all modern codecs like SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX-HD, LDAC, and UAT.
