Moondrop SSR (Super Starship Reference) is an upcoming budget friendly in ear monitor (IEM). After some recent constructive feedback from several reviewers based on the present units, Moondrop, in a Facebook post, indicated that they are going to update the SSR in later iterations and welcomed consumer suggestions. This is indeed a remarkable feat when it comes to a company honoring valuable feedback.

Moondrop

According to Moondrop, the SSR is an upgrade from the Spaceship that had gone through a few tweaks and seems to be more tweaks are on the way. The SSR is a single dynamic driver IEM which has somewhat become a rarity among the vast influx of multi-driver IEMs. Regardless, audio purists welcome the single dynamic driver design in IEMs.

Moondrop revealed the SSR earlier in June 2020 and while it was mostly lauded by the community, it did receive some tuning suggestions on platforms like head-fi. The proposals went beyond tuning but also into accessories and cables.

SSR Tuning

As one of the most experienced and beloved IEM companies from China, known well for hitting the Harman target in their tunings, Moondrop is openly welcoming suggestions for the revisions for the future units. This mindset is expected to contribute to the growth of the brand and the IEM itself.

UPDATE: Moondrop announced later on July 7, 2020 that the update will not change the tuning of the IEM and will rather stick to cosmetic changes, through their social media channels.
