Kinera BD005 Pro is the latest budget hybrid driver IEMs from the brand that excels in manufacturing high-resolution IEMs. It is actually an upgrade to the highly-acclaimed BD005 that was released back in 2017. The Pro version improves fit with a more ergonomic shape and it replaces the original BD005 model. It features a dual-driver hybrid configuration with a 9.2mm DD unit paired to a 30095 series BA unit and comes with a price tag of 49$. I got the Kinera BD005 Pro a few weeks back from HiFiGo, today I am gonna share my review for the same with you.

Kinera BD005 Pro-1

Disclaimer:-

I received the Kinera BD005 Pro from HiFiGo in return for my honest and unbiased review of the pair. I am in no way affiliated with HiFiGo, if you like you can buy the BD005 Pro from their store from the link below or their Amazon store here.

Package & Accessories:-

Kinera BD005 Pro-2

As my package was huge, I requested HiFiGo to send me the BD005 Pro without its retail packaging. So I got only the earpieces with an in-line mic cable, three pairs of silicone tips, and a Kinera branded carry case. If you are really want to check out the unboxing of BD005 Pro, you can check that out on HiFiGo’s YouTube channel below.

Package Contents that I received:-

>One pair Kinera BD005 Pro earphones.

>One 2-pin connector cable with in-line mic and 3.5mm termination.

>Three pairs of silicone tips.

>Carry case.

Design & Build Quality:-

The earpieces in Kinera BD005 Pro have a plasticky build with golden sprinkles and a Kinera branding logo on the face panel. They have a Resin enamel-like coating making them really soft to touch and hold. The earpieces are super-lightweight and have a small metallic nozzle. They are designed in such a way that the inner cavity looks elevated and the ear nozzle is quite small. On the top, they have 2-pin connectors, on the back, there’s a DD vent hole with a metallic covering. Despite a plasticky build, the earpieces look very beautiful and eye-catchy.

Kinera BD005 Pro-3

The included cable is a 4-wire cable with an in-line mic and media key on the right side. It doesn’t have any microphonic issues. It has R and L denoted on the connector housings for the Right and Left sides respectively. The included silicone tips are of pretty average quality nothing special about them.

Fit & Noise Isolation:-

With lightweight aesthetics and ergonomic design, the pair sits firmly into my medium-sized ears and provides me with a comfortable fit. The pair is hardly felt in the ears even after long listening sessions. Even though it has a small ear nozzle, the cavities cover the entire ear canal and provide a good level of noise-isolation.

Driving The Kinera BD005 Pro:-

The Kinera BD005 Pro has a low impedance rating of 26Ω and a high sensitivity of 108dB/mW. The pair is very easy to power. I used it with Cayin N3, Cayin N3 Pro, Topping E30+L30 combo stack. Here are my findings for this pair.

With Cayin N3:-

Cayin N3 is a very basic audio player. It powers the BD005 Pro at about 70/100 volume on high gain. The pair has a warm tonality here and sounds musical. There is no noticeable background noise or hiss in the output.

With Cayin N3 Pro:-

Kinera BD005 Pro-4

The Cayin N3 Pro is an advanced player with dual amplification timbres. With tube timbre I find the pair to have a warmer tonality than Solid-State timbre. Solid-State timbre sounds cleaner and wider. For volume, I never had to go above 50/100 on medium gain.

With Topping Stack:-

Kinera BD005 Pro-5

The Kinera BD005 Pro doesn’t need this much power. It drove well at like 30% volume on L30 at -9dB low gain mode. The output is cleanest in this combo.

In my experience with the Kinera BD005 Pro, it can be powered well off mobile sources. One simply doesn’t need any special devices or high-tech amplifiers to enjoy the full potential of the pair. But I always prefer using a high-res player such as N3 Pro for best performance with high-quality audio signal decoding. For this review, critical listening is done mostly on Cayin N3 Pro.

Sound Quality:-

The Kinera BD005 Pro has a sweet and melodious sound signature with no harshness or sibilance of any kind. With all the sources I paired it with I didn’t notice any background hiss or noise that might degrade the experience. The dual-driver hybrid performs well with a punchy bass(emphasis on mid-bass), airy acoustic instruments, detailed vocal presentation, and smooth, transparent high-frequencies. The soundstage with the pair is above average with good instrument detailing. It has a slight-V-shaped sound signature with a slightly recessed mid-frequency response. Vocals especially female vocals sound intimate and emotional. Here’s my frequency-wise sound description with the Kinera BD005 Pro.

Kinera BD005 Pro-6

Lower End:-

The lower end consists of punchy slams that complement our music with their precision and tight control. It doesn’t feel too much done, it is deep and punchy. It extends well and presents the user with a fun, enjoyable signature for genres such as Hip-Hop, EDM, and more. The main emphasis of the lower-end is on the mid-bass rather than the sub-bass portion. Sometimes in bass-heavy tracks the bass leaks to the lower-mids. For sub-bass, the rumble presence can be felt but it doesn’t extend well and lacks a thunderous response.

Mids:-

Mids are melodious and transparent. They are slightly recessed but detailed really well. Vocals sound emotional and intimate especially female vocals. I find the pair complementing genres such as Jazz, Acoustic performances, and more with its detailed and transparent mids section. Damien Rice is one of my favorite artists and his vocals convey his emotions well with the pair.

Kinera BD005 Pro-8

Treble:-

The treble portion with Kinera BD005 Pro sounds smooth and detailed. There is no harshness or sibilance with any music that I tested with the pair. Instruments such as Piano’s, Violins, Electric guitars, show a warm smooth tonality. This warm, smooth tonality, actually makes the output musical and melodious. The detail retrieval with such decent treble frequency response is also good that allows for a good listening experience with complex genres such as Heavy Metal, and more.

Soundstage & Imaging:-

The Kinera BD005 Pro has an above-average soundstage width and depth. It is neither too wide nor too narrow. It feels just adequate for different music genres. The pair retrieves good details for instruments making the placement and imaging pretty good with the pair.

Kinera BD005 Pro-7

Final Verdict:-

The Kinera BD005Pro presents a smooth, melodious signature that makes genres such as Jazz, Acoustic shine greatly with the pair. I spent hours with it listening to Angus & Julia Stone as the presentation sounded very smooth and musical to me. None of the frequencies sound heavily emphasized and the output is pretty enjoyable. For just 50$, I would recommend this if you are looking for something musical and enjoyable supporting acoustic, jazz, and vocal genres mainly. I would again like to thank HiFiGo for providing me this pair for this review, you can buy it from their store here.
