HiFiMAN HE-R10 headphone

Dr. Fang Bian announced the launch of the HiFiMAN HE-R10 headphone. The founder and CEO of the leading manufacturer of high-end audio products revealed the HE-R10 during an official press release. The HE-R10 will be a premium closed-back planar magnetic headphone that we expect to see soon.

As with all HiFiMAN headphones, the new HE-R10 utilizes the planar magnetic driver technology that is known for having low-impedance and being relatively easy to drive. So is the HE-R10 the closed-back Susvara we have been waiting for?

Dynamic & Planar Magnetic

In an unusual move, Dr. Fang announced two HE-R10 headphones, dynamic, and planar. The news surprised many people as HiFiMAN usually develops open-back planar magnetic headphones.

However, a closed-back planar magnetic headphone makes perfect sense. For several years, HiFiMAN, along with many companies, has been releasing many open-back planar designs. In-ear monitors cannot rightfully replace full-sized headphones. As a result, many people expressed interest in a good, high-end, closed-back planar headphone.

Closed-Back Planar Magnetic HiFiMAN HE-R10

Most headphones available on the market today rely on dynamic drivers. HiFiMAN took a different approach by developing its headphones using planar magnetic drivers. The company earned a well-deserved reputation among enthusiast headphone listeners.

HE-R10

The closed-back HE-R10 headphone allows users to enjoy listening to their favorite headphones without sacrificing any privacy. Thus, the HE-R10 already has the edge over several headphones, enabling the users to enjoy the ‘planar magnetic’ sound anywhere.

Wooden Cup Design

HiFiMAN headphones

HiFiMAN made a few new design decisions with the HE-R10. First, a premium-looking wooden cup design that decreases resonance and vibration. According to HiFiMAN, the shape of the ear cups allows the headphone to have a spacious sound and a wide soundstage, despite being a closed-back headphone.
Second, a new headband design to keep the HE-R10 light and comfortable to wear.

Sound Quality Of HiFiMAN HE-R10

Frequency response of HE-R10 headphone

For obvious reasons, we don’t know how the HE-R10 sounds. However, based on Dr.Fang’s frequency response graphs, we expect the two headphones to sound pretty good. The graphs reveal apparent differences between the dynamic and planar magnetic variants. Both seem to have an incredibly more than adequate bass response while remaining flat at the same time.

Lightweight & Easy To Drive

Headphones and amplifier

The HE-R10 weighs only 337g, which makes it light in weight and easy to use. At the same time, the drivers have an impedance of 32Ω and a sensitivity of 103dB. Therefore, the HE-R10 should be reasonably easy to drive, allowing users to enjoy the sound without depending on powerful amplifiers.

HiFiMAN HE-R10 Is Wired & Wireless

Headphones

The HE-R10 is not only lightweight and easy to drive but also convenient. HiFiMAN showed the two headphones seamlessly connected to wireless phones via Bluetooth. Wireless capability makes the HE-R10 a dream come true. The HE-R10 is not only light and comfortable but wireless too.

Price & Availability Of HiFiMAN HE-R10

The HE-10 will retail for $1,240 for the dynamic driver version and $4,850 for the planar driver headphone.
