HiBy held an online launch event today where it officially launched two new products. The first is a single dynamic driver IEM called the HiBy Lasya, and the second is a highly anticipated audio player, the HiBy R5 Gen 2. A few weeks back the R5 Saber was discontinued and news of a newer upcoming variant has surfaced since then. HiBy confirmed the R5 Gen 2 at the start of this month through their social media channels, and today the official release was done. HiBy R5 series has always been into the mid-fi league with a price tag of around 400$, the latest Gen 2 maintains that with a 400$ price tag. But in terms of features and usability, it brings a lot of upgrades over the previous models.

HiBy R5 Gen 2-1

First and foremost, the main highlight of the R5 Gen 2 is the inclusion of a new Class A headphone amplification circuit. Yes, we are getting a fully discrete class-A headphone amplification circuit consisting of 8 high-powered bipolar transistors, and 4 channels of push-pull amplification. The R5 Gen 2 delivers quality performance with ultra-low THD+N and high SNR ratings, ensuring a clean and detailed presentation of our favorite music!!!

HiBy R5 Gen 2-2

HiBy R5 Gen 2 adopts two high-performance ES9219C DAC chips from Sabre Technologies. This 32-Bit DAC provides excellent performance in decoding high-resolution PCM and DSD signals. It supports 32-Bit/768kHz PCM and DSD256 signals natively. Not only this, the R5 Gen 2 also supports 16x MQA unfolding for ultimate performance.

HiBy R5 Gen 2-3

The new addition here on the R5 Gen 2 from the previous models is the inclusion of a new 2.5mm balanced headphone jack. The previous two iterations of R5 series DAPs had 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs, but the latest R5 Gen 2 has now got three headphone outputs, 3.5mm SE, 2.5mm Bal, and 4.4mm Bal. Combined with Class A amplification and two-level gain modes, you can use any IEM or headphones with the R5 Gen 2.

HiBy R5 Gen 2-4

HiBy R5 Gen 2 has got the latest generation design from HiBy. It looks quite identical to the R6 2020, RS6, and the flagship R8. It has got a bigger display than the previous two models, now housing a 4.7″ display with 1280x720p HD resolution. The image quality is crisp and bright with the R5 Gen 2.

HiBy R5 Gen 2-5

HiBy R5 Gen 2 has also got an upgrade in its battery. It now packs a large 4500mAh battery that lasts up to 35 hours on a single charge. On Class A headphone amplification mode, it lasts for up to 8.5 hours.
